Why a coating is only as good as the prep

The coating is the last hour of a three-day job. Everything that makes it look the way it does happened before the bottle was opened.

What people think they are buying

Most enquiries describe the coating itself — the brand, the years, the water beading. Those are real, but they are the smallest part of what changes how a car looks.

A coating is a clear layer measured in microns. It protects and it adds gloss, and it copies faithfully whatever is underneath it. Apply it over swirl marks and you get sealed-in swirl marks with a warranty.

Where the days actually go

Decontamination first: chemical, then mechanical with clay, to take off what washing cannot. Then paint depth readings across every panel, because you cannot safely correct paint without knowing how much lacquer there is.

Then correction, which is the bulk of it. Machine polishing in stages, panel by panel, checking under different lights. This is the part that takes days rather than hours, and it is the part that makes the difference people notice.

Why we will sometimes talk you out of it

If the car is a daily driver that lives outside and gets washed at a supermarket, a coating is not the right purchase. It will look superb for a month and then be covered in wash marks that the coating is now protecting.

The honest version is that protection is worth having when the care around it matches. We would rather sell you a sealant and a sensible wash routine than a coating you will be disappointed by in eight weeks.
